I haven't bought new shoes in awhile, so I guess it's only fitting that the first pair I decided to get are all retro. I had these in the "Clown Colors" models in junior high school, and I got made fun of plenty. I have no idea what it'll be like to go back to Hi Tops this long after the fact, but I'm taking the plunge. Is this the first sign of an impending mid-life crisis?
Absolutely.
If you are middle-aged and wearing these, people will automatically assume you are living in - or moved back into - your parents' basement, watch Dr. Who and Battlestar Galactica, and probably won't get laid until you lose them fugly-now-Brooklyn-hipster-not-really-retro shoes.
Why would you wear anything that would remotely remind you of being pummeled half to death in middle school dodgeball games?
